Following a complaint by the woman’s father, Indapur police registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those relating to dowry death and abetment of suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Sonali Samadhan Chandanshive (21), a resident of Wadapuri and originally from Kanhergaon in Madha taluka of Solapur district. She married Samadhan alias Karthik Gautam Chandanshive on November 23, 2025.
According to the complaint filed by her father, Hanumant Shripati Bansode, Sonali was allegedly subjected to harassment soon after her marriage. Her in-laws had allegedly demanded that she bring ₹1 lakh from her parental family to help them purchase a plot.
The complaint alleges that when the money was not provided, Sonali was subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault and was also allegedly denied food as part of the harassment. She is said to have informed her father about the alleged treatment when she visited her parental home.
On September 3 afternoon, her in-laws reportedly informed her family over the phone that she had allegedly taken the extreme step at the family’s residence in Wadapuri. Her father then immediately travelled to Indapur.
Sonali was taken to a government hospital for treatment, but doctors declared her dead.
Based on her father’s complaint, Indapur police registered a case under BNS Sections 80(2) (dowry death), 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) against her husband Samadhan alias Karthik Chandanshive, mother-in-law Parvati Gautam Chandanshive and father-in-law Gautam Namdev Chandanshive, all residents of Wadapuri. The case brings allegations of harassment and a ₹1 lakh demand against the three accused under the provisions invoked by police.
